Auchterarder Golf Club Receives Prestigious Environmental Award
Auchterarder Golf Club has become the first traditional UK members’ golf club to achieve the prestigious GEO Certified™ award. One of forty clubs recognised through the Golf Environment Organisation’s rigorous international certification, the management team at Auchterarder is delighted to have secured a place among the world’s most environmentally committed golf clubs.
Archie Dunn, Head Greenkeeper at the club for 14 years and senior board member of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), is not one to shy away from innovation or the need for leadership. Archie said:
“GEO Certification is an important ongoing project for Auchterarder Golf Club, helping to shape our environmental programme and provide a basis from which we will work to make our club more sustainable year on year. As the first traditional club in the UK to achieve GEO Certified™ status, our management team and membership are really proud. The rest of the world is running with GEO and the UK needs to do the same. We strongly encourage other facilities to get OnCourse™ for the GEO award as soon as they can and reap the benefits too.”
Jonathan Smith, GEO Chief Executive, is delighted to see sustainability action continue apace in Perthshire. He said:
“As a former sustainability adviser in Scottish golf I've had a close insight to the evolution of Auchterarder's environmental awareness. This club is a great example for Scottish golf.”
